My Votes 2012

I generally like to blog about what and who I will be voting for in the general election. This year is no different. Here comes my votes:

President of the United States of America: Mitt Romney (R) – Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past four years, you have an opinion of Barack Obama. Mine is negative. Never has there been a President less in tune with what I believe in my adult life. He is pro-abortion, opposing the born-alive infant protection act as a State Senator and putting new, pro-abortion members onto the Supreme Court. The next four years will either be defined by the incredibly poor policies of Barack Obama or by someone who has a proven business record, who has a proven record to be able to get things fixed. Yes, the Mittness is not perfect on fiscal or social conservative issues – historically he has not always been 100% on my side. But, today he’s my 80% friend – and that is much better than my 0% friend in Barack Obama. Then you add on Benghazi, then you add on Fast and Furious and you see the incompetence of  our awful Commander in Chief. Mitt Romney will be a better President than Barack Obama. Period.

United States Senate: Daniel Bongino (R) – Ben Cardin is a token, boring liberal US Senator. There is very little that defines his life except for the fact that he has been a politician his whole life. Dan Bongino is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. He is honest, has served this nation dutifully as a former Secret Service agent, and shares my values. Rob Sobhani is the other realistic option and he’s a liar who will tell you whatever you want to hear if he thinks it’ll get you to vote for him. Among conservatives, he claims to be a conservative. Among liberals, he says you should vote for him and Obama. He supported the DREAM Act in an editorial last year, but opposes it now. He has no opinion on Question 6 now,  but supported gay marriage on his petition sheets. He promises millions in outside money to invest in Maryland, but doesn’t tell where it’s coming from or why they are unwilling to invest in our state currently. He’s a liar; he’s a bad candidate; and I pray his vanity run does not destroy the chances of Dan Bongino.

Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District: Nancy Jacobs (R) – Dutch Ruppersberger is another boring, old, white liberal politician. There is very little to distinguish him from another liberal politician. Nancy Jacobs is a principled Republican. She’s not a perfect conservative – but she’s a far cry from Dutch. She’s also a very serious candidate – an accomplished State Senator with numerous years of experience. She will be a much better Congressman than the Chairman of the Obscurity Caucus.

Question 1 / 2: No – Questions 1 and 2 change the requirements for Judges of the Orphan’s Court in Prince George’s and Baltimore County. These elected judges would be required to be lawyers if Questions 1 and 2 pass. Why? Here is the definition of the Orphan’s Court – it has, “…limited jurisdiction specializing in cases involving disputes about wills and/or codicils, the administration of estates, guardianships over property left to minors and protection of minors’ assets.” It begs the question – does this require a law degree or being in good standing with the state bar in order to serve in this post? Not really. Sometimes a person from the outside without a law degree may be better qualified to assist in these types of cases. It does not take a specialty degree in order to adjudicate these cases, it takes empathy and competence. A degree does not create those two abilities.

Question 3: Yes – Question 3 is simple – it will make it so an elected official is suspended when they are convicted of a crime instead of when they are sentenced, which is the way it is currently. I’m okay with the suspension coming sooner in the process.

Question 4: No – I’ve been a strong opponent of the DREAM Act for a while. It’s not really a surprise that I oppose this measure to overturn the DREAM Act as passed in Maryland.

Question 5: No – Question 5 is to vote up or down our current Congressional district map. Look at an image of District 3 and tell me this is not some of the worst gerrymandering in America. Oh wait, they are…officially. Let’s vote them down and send a message that we need compact Congressional districts with communities actually kept close together.

Question 6: No – I’ve made my position clear on this as well. I am voting to overturn gay marriage. I do not hate gay people, but I do not feel gay marriage should be legalized in Maryland. There is something else I’d like to note here: tolerance does not mean acceptance. Tolerance is not establishing a law to prohibit people of the same gender from dating. Acceptance is condoning their relationships under the law and providing them added tax benefits. I can tolerate, be respectful, and not hate gay people while still not accepting and disagreeing with their lifestyle.

Question 7: No – Question 7 was a poorly crafted, rapidly shoved through attempt to expand gambling in Maryland. Due to a terribly written / prepared attempt to legalize it inside our State Constitution (which I voted against), we need to vote on any expansion. The full ramifications are not entirely known; sweetheart deals are given to people who had donated to leading Democrats. Also, there is no definite guarantee the money will go to education only. I’m voting no and will continue to oppose pretty much any gambling measure which does not overturn our awfully prepared Constitutional gambling amendment.

Questions A through I: No – Questions A through I are voted upon every election cycle. Baltimore County asks us to vote upon their debt / borrowing for 9 different divisions in the county. I vote no every time. Why? If we can not afford it in our budget, then we should not be spending money on it. Let’s cut more corners, make the county much leaner and yes, stop all the massive borrowing.

Feel free to post your opinion, just be respectful.
